This panel and discussion examine how women musician activists used music as part of their activist work in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and ‘60s. Panelists will discuss the different ways Fannie Lou Hamer, Bernice Johnson Reagon, and Ella Jenkins amplified social justice messages, brought activists together, addressed difficult lived experiences, and expressed imagined futures.
