Staff Summertime "Bests"

Part one in a three-part CAHSS News series.

Soon after CAHSS graduating students depart for the summer, things quiet down enough for many of us to breathe, get caught up and dream up innovative ways to better support our CAHSS students, faculty and each other in the upcoming school year.

The CAHSS newsroom asked CAHSS staff members to share what they like best about being on campus over the summer, including their picks for best lunch spots, best strolls around campus, best hideaways to get work done, best place to hold meetings outside and best ways to de-stress and cool off. Here’s what they had to say.

Emily Cederberg, Interim Executive Assistant to the Dean, Enrollment Services Coordinator

Best part of being on campus over the summer?  The slower, relaxed pace and taking walks around campus.

Best lunch spots? Ginza, Birdcall and Illegal Pete’s.

Best ways (or places) to de-stress and cool off? Taking a walk around campus and a stop by Kaladi’s.

Ethan Dvorak, content and event specialist, CAHSS Marketing & Communications

Best part of being on campus over the summer?  It gives us a chance to catch our breath in a beautiful, green and lively space!

Best lunch spots? Snarfs, Mustard's Last Stand and Tacos El Metate.

Best strolls around campus: Around Campus Green, over to Lamont, around the library.

Best hideaways to get work done: Anywhere outside!

Andrew Ferdig, admission specialist, Lamont School of Music

Best part of being on campus over the summer? Lamont staff love to take advantage of the sunshine and often spend lunch playing cornhole on the lawn.

Best lunch spots? Jerusalem.

Best hideaways to get work done? The Renaissance Room in Mary Reed.

Best place to hold meetings outside? Community Commons rooftop patio.

Best strolls around campus? Through the Denver Urban Gardens by J-Mac.

Hannah Fulk, senior manager, digital communications, Marketing & Communications

Best part of being on campus over the summer? Because stress is lower for our staff members, we have more time to connect as humans aside from our job titles and responsibilities and learn more about each other's lives through frequent and frivolous visits to each other's offices and casual walks to the coffee shop together. Summer at DU is a special opportunity to continue building relationships with my colleagues when the workload is lower, the vibes are high and the weather is sunny!
