Happy New Year! We are glad to welcome back our faculty, staff and students to campus after a well-deserved break over the holidays.

The start of the quarter is always busy and that’s especially the case for this winter term. We have endowed lectures coming up on important, engaging topics, several searches underway for key faculty and leadership roles within the College and a new structure for the CAHSS staff supporting our faculty, staff, students and the CAHSS community.

These new Support Services teams are committed to continuing to provide exemplary service to faculty, students and other stakeholders under the leadership of the College’s Chief Operating Officer, Cheryl Miller. They include:

  • Business and Operations, which provides business, fiscal, and administrative support across our departments, programs, institutes, and initiatives.
  • Enrollment, comprised of Recruitment and Admissions and Enrollment Services, which partners with departments and the Dean’s Office to support the full student journey at DU, from point of awareness to graduation.
  • Marketing and Communications continues to drive our efforts to strengthen CAHSS’s reputation with our target audiences as a leading liberal arts college and the largest and most diverse of the colleges at DU.
  • Facilities, Infrastructure and Equipment (FIE) continues to support the College’s physical plant, including maintenance and repairs, facilities emergencies, capital projects, and computer deployment.

We also are fully engaged in searches for several key tenure-track and teaching line faculty positions, a new Director at the Lamont School of Music and for a permanent Dean to lead CAHSS when my role as Interim Dean concludes this summer. I am deeply appreciative of the active participation of the many faculty and staff members who are dedicating their time and expertise as members of these search committees to showcase the breadth, depth, and diversity of this College to successfully fill these important roles.

CAHSS is offering unique programming this quarter, as well. Among these events are the Livingston Lecture, “Locating Nazi-Looted Art: Why the Search Matters Today,” on Jan. 14 and the Wolzien Lecture, “Local Journalism, Higher Education & the Future of Democracy” on Feb. 13.

These endowed lectures are among the highlights of the CAHSS annual calendar, as is the Lamont Symphony Orchestra: “Evening of Orchestral and Vocal Masterpieces” on Feb. 5 and “The Moors -- Department of Theatre” on Feb. 14 and 15. I hope you’ll join me at these terrific programs.

In the meantime, I hope we are all rested, recharged and looking forward to a successful and enjoyable winter quarter.

Warmly,

Rachel A. Walsh
