The PSYCHE Laboratory

In the Psychedelic Studies of Consciousness (PSYCHE) Lab, we explore how psychedelics influence consciousness and shape life narratives. Our research focuses on how high-dose psychedelic experiences bring unconscious material to the surface including existential concerns such as death and mortality, meaning and meaninglessness, and freedom and responsibility. We investigate the long-term psychological impact of directly confronting these concerns and explore how such experiences can increase self-awareness, provide more meaning to life, and, for some, completely reorganize existential frameworks.

Psychedelics have a powerful effect of surfacing deeply unconscious — and sometimes threatening — psychological material. For some, they serve as a catalyst for psychological transformation; for others, a challenging descent into the depths of the psyche.
