What I do
I am a poet from West Texas whose research and creative interests include digital artifacts and folklore, the lives of saints, contemporary American theatre, hybrid genres, ecopoetics, the sublime, the affective power of form and meter, and mixed-grass prairies.
Professional Biography
C. Henry Smith (he/him) is a Ph.D. student in English and Literary Arts at the University of Denver. He is the author of the poetry chapbooks Warren (Ghost City Press) and Twenty-Four Covers of a House on Fire (Finishing Line Press), and his Pushcart and Best of the Net nominated work has appeared in Colorado Review, Image, DMQ Review, Psaltery & Lyre, LIT, and elsewhere. He received his BA at St. Edward’s University in theatre and arts business and his MFA at Oregon State University in creative writing and poetry. He is grateful for past residencies through Spring Creek Project and Chicago Art Department.
Chris has worked in marketing, nonprofit operations, and arts education for much of professional life. As an educator, he has taught courses in theatre with Texas Arts Project and in writing at Oregon State University where he was managing editor of 45th Parallel Literary Magazine. Chris has spoken at conferences on sustainable community development and the state of arts education and also enjoys producing theatre, touching grass, and asking strangers for their ghost stories.
