The Applied AI and Society minor in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is an interdisciplinary program that draws on courses across CAHSS and the University.
This minor is grounded in the liberal arts, connecting artificial intelligence to human questions about ethics, identity, culture, public policy, and social impact.
Students explore how AI is changing the way we communicate, create, work, and make decisions, while developing the critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and professional skills needed to lead in an AI-transformed world.
An Interdisciplinary Approach to AI
Applied AI and Society is designed for undergraduates who want a practical, interdisciplinary approach to understanding AI, evaluating its limits, and applying it responsibly in academic, professional, and everyday contexts.
Real Skills for Real-World Careers
AI is already shaping nearly every field, even when “AI” is not in the job title. This minor helps students connect technical knowledge to real-world decision-making, ethics, and impact. Through applied, interdisciplinary learning, students will build the confidence and skills to be able to use AI thoughtfully.
Students who complete the minor will be able to:
Understand AI across disciplines
Explain core AI concepts, including machine learning, natural language processing, and robotics, and connect them to ethical, psychological, and sociological questions.
Apply AI responsibly
Use generative and other AI tools ethically and effectively.
Evaluate where and when AIis being used
Assess AI’s strengths and limitations in specific contexts, including issues of bias, transparency, and accountability.
Analyze AI’s impact on society
Become an expert on how AI shapes privacy, labor, power, and human agency using perspectives from philosophy, law, and public policy.
