Calli M. Cain is an assistant professor of Criminology and joined DU in September, 2024. She received her Ph.D. in Criminology & Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2018. Her research interests include victimization, human trafficking, juvenile delinquency, corrections, gender and intersectionality, and criminal justice policies. Her work has been published in Victims & Offenders, Journal of Criminal Justice, Journal of Human Trafficking, Journal of Quantitative Criminology, Law & Society Review, Criminal Justice & Behavior, among other journals. Before getting her doctorate, Calli worked in a foster home for youth with extreme trauma, mental health and delinquency problems. Additionally, she spent time abroad in Cambodia and Uganda volunteering with local non-profits that were combating human trafficking. She pursued her doctorate after realizing how few resources were available to help victims of childhood sexual exploitation in general, and saw how they often ended up in the juvenile and adult justice systems.
