Annual Harper Lecture

The Harper Lecture will be hosted in Craig Hall, room 120 (2148 S High St.) from 6-7 p.m. MT on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Prior to the lecture, join us for a reception from 5-6 p.m. in Craig Hall's main lobby for light bites and beverages. Street parking is available near campus, and paid parking is available in parking lot 301. Parking lot 301 is across the street Westbound from the Driscoll Student Center (2050 E Evans Ave).
This year's esteemed Harper lecturer is Jason De León , the Lloyd E. Cotsen Endowed Chair of Archaeology, Professor of Anthropology and Chicana/o Studies, and Director of the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is also the Executive Director of the Undocumented Migration Project, a non-profit research, arts, and education collective that seeks to raise awareness about migration issues globally. He is a 2017 MacArthur Foundation Fellow and author of the award-winning book, "The Land of Open Graves: Living and Dying on the Migrant Trail." De Leon's latest book, “Soldiers and Kings: Survival and Hope in the World of Human Smuggling,” won the 2024 National Book Award for Nonfiction.
