Experiential Learning
In the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS) we embrace a well-rounded liberal arts education. That includes opportunities for students to deepen their knowledge through hands-on experiences in the classroom and applying what they're learning in class to the professional world.
Connecting Classrooms to Real-World Learning
The Lorraine Mathies Liberal Arts Fund
The Lorraine Mathies Liberal Arts fund was established by M. Lorraine Mathies, who obtained her B.A. from the University of Denver in 1948, to provide CAHSS faculty members with financial support for curriculum-related expenses in the liberal arts. This includes expenses incurred to support the development or revision of CAHSS courses taught during the regular academic year, the development or revision of CAHSS curricular programs, and diverse learning experiences for students in CAHSS courses.
"The high-impact learning practices that the Mathies Fund supports are the kinds of activities that have a significant influence on students in CAHSS, whether it's during their time at DU or during the longer arc of their life."
- Andrea Stanton, Senior Associate Dean of CAHSS

Living & Learning Communities
The University of Denver's Living and Learning Communities (LLCs) bring together first-year students, a Faculty Mentor, and staff who all share a common interest. Together, you will live in the same hall, learn in a sequence of classes, and take part in events – both in and out of the classroom. LLCs are ideal communities if you want to explore more about a specific topic area, learn with a community of peers and mentors, and discover ways to turn your passions into action. The class sequence is a pathway to an academic minor or certificate.
