Professional Biography

I am a social psychologist whose research and teaching focus on emotions, coping, and the psychology of religion using a variety of methods and populations.

After completing my PhD at the University of Michigan, I joined the department of psychology at DU in 1992. After promotion to full professor in 2007, I served as Director of the University’s Honors Program between 2008 and 2012, was chair of the Department of Psychology from 2012 to 2014, and was Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences from 2014 to 2021.
