Mary Block

Mary Block is a current student at University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music, pursuing her Master of Music in Piano Performance along with a Certificate in Piano Pedagogy. She is a student of Dr. Stephanie Cheng. Mary previously earned her Bachelor of Music from Metropolitan State University of Denver, where she studied with Dr. Nan Shannon and Dr. Jooeun Pak.  

Mary is a dedicated piano instructor to students of all ages. With 3+ years of teaching experience, she is always learning and improving her teaching methods. As a member of the Music Teachers National Association and Denver Area Music Teachers Association, she invests in her professional growth and community. Mary aims to teach with a strengths-based approach and to cultivate a growth mindset in her students, while building a solid musical foundation. She believes that an understanding of music theory and music history are fundamental components of musicianship, and guides her students in engaging with the music deeper than just the notes on the page. Mary guides her students through the process of preparing for and performing in recitals, emphasizing musicianship and healthy performance approaches. 

Beyond her academic and musical pursuits, Mary is an enthusiastic reader, hoping to one day curate a library of 1,000 books. She enjoys nurturing her house plant collection, savoring tea, and cherishing moments with her two beloved cats.
