What I do
I have worked in public speaking and competitive speaking for many years. I have written 5 books on public speaking including 2 due out this summer. I speak at numerous conferences ranging from protest poetry for the national council of teachers of English, to language acquisition for the Asian Society. I speak regularly at Fulbright conferences on the following topics: education in a country populated by Muslims, religious pluralism, modern tyranny, and speaking across differences. I completed a Fulbright year in Turkiye in 2006. I have worked in Turkiye conducting teacher-training seminars for several years. I continue to work with students promoting Community Engaged learning in my classes and am part of the university’s Center for Community Engaged Scholarship and Learning.
