Anderson Academic Commons, RM 290

Join faculty, staff, and students for an open discussion on academic freedom, institutional autonomy, and international exchange held in conjunction with the exhibit, "The Magna Charta Universitatum: A Pledge to the Principles of Academic Freedom and Institutional Autonomy."

The exhibit features the Magna Charta Universitatum (The Great Charter of Universities) signed by representatives of the University of Denver in 1997 in a ceremony at the University of Bologna, Italy. By signing on behalf of DU, they pledged to uphold and protect academic freedom and institutional autonomy as key principles essential to the operation of universities. Nearly 1000 universities around the world have now signed the Charter, defending the idea of the university as an open space dedicated to higher learning without interference. The exhibit also showcases the extensive partnership between DU and the University of Bologna and the many activities and programs that grew out of it.
