Why Study Art?
Studying art at the University of Denver is a smart choice if you want serious creative training plus real-world momentum—not just time in a studio bubble.
Here’s why the School of Art & Art History at DU stands out:
You get hands-on, mentored learning.
Our programs are intentionally small, which means you work closely with faculty who know your work, challenge your ideas, and help you grow as an artist. You’re not lost in a lecture hall—you’re in conversation.
You learn art in context.
At DU, studio practice is paired with art history, theory, and critical thinking. You learn how to make art and why it matters, building the kind of analytical and visual literacy that translates across careers.
Denver is your extended classroom.
The city’s creative scene—museums, galleries, public art, nonprofits, and design firms—creates opportunities for internships, exhibitions, and professional connections while you’re still a student.
You’re prepared for life after graduation.
DU emphasizes professional development alongside creative exploration. Students graduate with strong portfolios, real experience, and adaptable skills in communication, problem-solving, and collaboration.
