The University of Denver’s Asian Studies program aims to foster awareness and knowledge of Asian cultures through an undergraduate program that connects resources from several departments. Our major and minor focus primarily on the history, languages and cultures of China and Japan, with additional foci on the political, religious and economic contexts of East and South Asia.
Our small but dedicated program allows us to give each student personalized advising and attention. You'll learn from faculty that bring years of expertise from numerous interdisciplinary backgrounds. You'll have the opportunity to apply your knowledge in study abroad programs and earn distinction in the major.
Your degree in Asian Studies opens up opportunities in a wide range of careers in the public and private sectors. Graduates skilled in Asian languages and knowledgeable about Asian cultures, who make up only a tiny minority of graduates, rank among the most desirable employees for many public and private sector organizations.
Our graduates have gone on to successful careers in government service, education, journalism, marketing and international business. Our students also continue their education in graduate school with focuses in history and literary studies.
The University of Denver offers numerous study abroad opportunities in countries such as China, Japan, Thailand and India. Our integrated study abroad programs give you opportunities to collaborate with individuals and organizations on an international scale, as well as develop your ability to build creative solutions to critical issues in the global business sphere.
Distinction in the Major
To achieve distinction in your Asian Studies major, you'll need to pursue an independent research agenda, write an extended senior thesis and compile a portfolio of representative work. You'll work with faculty mentors and advisors along the way, and will ultimately submit these materials to be considered for distinction in Asian Studies.
