Getting Ready for Summer: Spring 2020

Article  •

By Lynn Schofield Clark, Chair of the Department of Media, Film & Journalism Studies

At this time of year, I am usually looking out my office window onto groups of students circled together under the shade of the trees at the eastern end of Harvard Gulch park: a popular spot for Media, Film and Journalism Studies final class sessions. This year, of course, the campus is strangely empty as we mark the transition from spring to summer. But students are still gathering, in their online class sessions as well as in less formal online settings and, more recently, in socially distanced in-person masked get-togethers.

MFJS Department Chair, Lynn Schofield Clark

As a department, we'll have one last gathering for the year: The annual MFJS Awards Ceremony and Film Showcase, which is a chance for us to celebrate the Outstanding Students from each degree program and to view the final films produced by students in the two-quarter Narrative Capstone class. The event will be virtual this year, which means that it will be accessible for alumni and friends of the university from all over the world. Please consider joining us as we watch, talk to student filmmakers about their work, and celebrate the end of the academic year together. You'll have a chance to send in your own question, comment, or greeting, and we'd love to hear from you. The event will be held via zoom.
