Professional Biography
Professor Byrne brings a rich blend of academic and professional experience to the classroom, drawing on a distinguished career as a Senior Lecturer at Cornell University and a substantial background in screenwriting and media production in the Hollywood industry.
With an educational foundation in English Literature and Theater Arts, Professor Byrne has spent over two decades teaching media storytelling, podcasting, digital narrative production, and screenwriting. His Cornell courses—such as Writing and Producing the Narrative for Digital Media and Sport Communication: Media, Marketing, Crisis & Violence—are designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and industry practice.
Professor Byrne’s Hollywood screenwriting and production work deeply informs his pedagogy, emphasizing hands-on storytelling and the evolving roles of media professionals in today’s digital landscape. Through industry immersion courses like NYCOMM, LACOMM, and SILICOMM, he has built robust networks that give students direct exposure to media giants like NBCUniversal, Disney Studios, Google, and Spotify.
