JC Smith

JC Smith (he/him) is a first year Literary Studies MA student at DU. He was born and raised in Tupelo, Mississippi, and joined the U.S. Army in 2008. After leaving the military, JC attended the University of Mississippi and received his BA in Philosophy with an emphasis in religion in 2022. JC received his first MA from DU in Religious Studies with a focus on lived religions. After completing Literary Studies MA program, JC hopes to pursue a PhD. He wants to use his expertise to analyze contemporary religious folklore and myth-making in the academic field. JC lives in Denver with his wife and their three children. Outside of academics, JC is an avid alpinist who loves camping as well as working and training dogs. His favorite thing to do is tell stories around an open fire.
