Professional Biography
Petra Meyer-Frazier specializes in nineteenth-century popular music in the United States. Frazier holds a BA in music and international studies and an MA (Claremont Graduate school) and PhD in musicology (University of Colorado). Her 2015 publication Bound Music, Unbound Women (College Music Society Press) delves into women's collections of popular parlor songs from a sociological, musicological, and biographical perspective. With active interests also in regional history and the connections between brain research and music, Frazier regularly presents papers both nationally and internationally (Society for American Music, Porter-Campbell Symposium, North American Conference on Nineteenth-Century Music, Colorado Music Educator's Association, among others) and has published in journals including Women and Music: A Journal of Gender and Culture. She also serves on the board of the American Music Research Center.
