Professional Biography

Stephanie Kang (she/they) is Assistant Professor of Art History and Critical Race & Ethnic Studies at the University of Denver. She specializes in contemporary art with a focus on new media theory, critical race and ethnic studies, and queer theory. She received an MFA in visual art from Washington University in St. Louis and a PhD in art history from the Ohio State University. She has curated several exhibitions and was previously an assistant curator at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati. Some notable exhibitions include Robert O'Neal: Open to All (2023), Cameron Granger: The Cartographer Tries to Map a Way to Heaven (2022), and I Am Here/You Were There (2022). Her essays have been published or are forthcoming in Media-N, Utopian Studies, Flash Art, Cinephile, Runner Magazine, and the publication An American City: Eleven Cultural Exercises (FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art). At the University of Denver, she teaches classes at the intersection of art history and critical race and ethnic studies.
