Professional Biography

Emily Book McGree is currently on the faculty at the Lamont School of Music, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate piano pedagogy, and directs the Piano Preparatory Program. A passionate music educator, Book McGree has a wealth of experience coaching piano teachers in a variety of settings, and she strives to use the latest pedagogical techniques to reach students of all ages and ability levels.

Book McGree is a frequent presenter at national and state music teacher conferences and serves as a teacher trainer and mentor to new Recreational Music Making (RMM) teachers awarded the National Piano Foundation RMM Teaching Fellowship. She specializes in the RMM field and has been on the conference planning committee for the RMM track at the Music Teacher’s Nation Conference since 2013.

In addition to the Lamont School of Music, Book McGree has also served on faculties at the University of Northern Colorado, University of Colorado at Boulder, and Front Range Community College. For over a decade, she helped shape the trajectory of Parlando School of Musical Arts, in Boulder, CO, where she was the Education Director and piano faculty.

Originally from Ohio, Book McGree holds a BM in piano performance from Ohio Wesleyan University, an MM in piano performance from Louisiana State University, and a DMA in piano performance and pedagogy from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Book McGree currently resides in Lafayette, CO, where she founded and teaches through Lafayette Piano Academy (lafayettepianoacademy.org).
