Professional Biography
Johanna Campos is a violinist and educator with extensive experience in Suzuki pedagogy, youth orchestras, and community music initiatives. She currently serves as Associate Teacher in the Suzuki Program at the Lamont School of Music, where she teaches private lessons, and directs the University of Northern Colorado String Project, where she leads curriculum design, ensemble coaching, and community outreach.
She also directed the “Más Música!” Project with the Greater Boulder Youth Orchestra, a program created to expand access to violin playing for young musicians in the community. In Colombia, Johanna contributed to the Bogotá Philharmonic’s Vamos a la Filarmónica outreach program and worked with the Red de Escuelas y Bandas de Medellín—programs modeled after Venezuela’s El Sistema—bringing orchestral training and inspiration to hundreds of children and youth. She also taught violin and chamber ensembles at elementary and high schools with an emphasis in music, and served as a teacher in the preparatory programs of both EAFIT University and the University of Cauca.
As a performer, Johanna has more than 20 years of experience playing in professional orchestras. In the United States, she has performed with the Boulder Philharmonic, the Boulder Symphony, and the Arapahoe Philharmonic. In Colombia, she played with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia and the EAFIT Symphony Orchestra.
Deeply passionate about teaching, Johanna finds great joy in guiding children and young people on their musical journeys, fostering both artistry and personal growth. She holds a Master of Music in Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy from the University of Denver, as well as violin performance degrees from EAFIT University in Medellín and the Conservatory Liceu in Barcelona, where she was a Fundación Carolina Scholarship recipient. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Arts in Violin Performance and Music Business at the University of Northern Colorado.
