Audition & Application Information
Applicants may choose to either audition in person in Denver OR submit a recorded video audition. All video submissions are due by Friday, January 29.
The 2027 Regular Decision* in-person audition dates are:
- Saturday, January 30
- Saturday, February 6
Applicants may also schedule an ad hoc audition or interview on an alternate date.

It is our policy that a student may audition a maximum of three times.

Undergraduate Admission Steps
Applicants must successfully complete an audition or have portfolio materials reviewed before being offered admission to the Lamont School of Music & Theatre. First-year music & theatre applicants are considered for admission during the Early Action, Early Decision, and Regular Decision timelines, and new students normally may not enroll mid-year.
- Apply to the University of Denver via the Common Application, selecting one of the "Music" or "Theatre" majors.
- Within 1-2 business days, you will receive an email from DU inviting you to log into your application status page, using the provided PIN to establish your account.
- Fill out the supplemental Lamont application, found under the Application Checklist. Here you will provide more information about yourself from a artistic perspective, upload your music/theatre résumé and rep list, and indicate whether you intend to audition in person or by submitting a recorded video audition.
- Upload the remainder of your music or theatre requirements (composition portfolio, recording & production portfolio, theatre portfolio, recorded video audition if you're not auditioning live) in the Portfolio section of your application status page by clicking "Edit Portfolio."
- Within 2-3 business days, Lamont Admission will send you an email confirmation of your scheduled audition and check off your portfolio materials.
Admission decisions for Regular Decision are typically released in late February or early March with scholarship information following in mid-March.

*Early Decision/Early Action
Undergraduate applicants who would like to apply during the Early Decision/Early Action admission timeline are encouraged to do so. All early auditions must be completed in the fall. A student cannot apply for early action or early decision and audition during the regular decision timeline. The audition timeline must match the application timeline.
An applicant can only audition once per year. If an early applicant is not prepared to audition by our scheduled fall audition day, they may request to move both their application and audition to our Regular Decision timeline and audition in the winter. This will not negatively impact their admission decision and possible scholarship award, though in this case they will no longer be considered for early admission.
The Early Decision/Early Action audition date for a Fall 2027 start is Friday, November 6, 2026. Students unable to attend this in person audition may instead submit a recorded video audition by November 3.
Audition, interview, and portfolio requirements follow all Regular Decision guidelines. Please review requirements for your program on the Lamont Studios page. ED/EA auditions are scheduled as they are requested and as availability permits.
Admission decisions for Early Decision are typically released in early December. Admission decisions for Early Action are typically released in mid-December.

Graduate Admission Steps
Applicants must successfully complete an audition or have portfolio materials reviewed before being offered admission to the Lamont School of Music & Theatre. Most programs require that students begin their studies in the fall quarter.
- Start an application to the University of Denver.
- In the tab "Lamont School of Music," provide additional information about yourself from a musical perspective and upload an optional repertoire list. If your program requires an audition, you will select either your preferred in-person date or the recorded video audition option.
- If you're not auditioning live, upload your recorded video audition in the "Digital Portfolio" tab. This is also where conductors should upload their pre-screen videos. If you are eligible and would like to apply for the Newman Fellowship, this is also where you would upload those required video materials.
- Upload your personal statement and résumé on the "Supporting Materials" tab. This is also where composers should upload PDFs of scores.
- Supporting application materials (personal statement, audition videos, composition portfolio, transcripts, test scores, etc.) can be uploaded after you submit your application.
- After your application is submitted, you will be prompted to pay your application fee.
- Within 2-3 business days, Lamont Admission will send you an email confirmation of your live audition or Zoom interview (if required) and check off your portfolio materials.
Graduate admission and scholarship decisions are typically released in mid-March for a fall quarter start.

We would love to host you for a tour at the Lamont School of Music & Theatre!
Tours of the Newman Center for the Performing Arts are led by our Lamont Student Ambassadors, a dedicated team of current music majors. They are available by appointment only while class is in session, Monday through Friday at noon and 1:00 p.m. To request a date and time, please email lamontadmission@du.edu. A Lamont tour and info session lasts approximately one hour.
We highly encourage you to sign up for a DU campus tour in tandem with your Lamont visit, in order to see everything that DU has to offer (and to get your parking covered). These tours and info sessions last about 2.5 hours and are available Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Financial Aid

Lamont Student Ambassadors
Kaitlyn Rosling
Kaitlyn is a first-year Master’s student, studying clarinet performance. She was raised in a little farming community in Roggen, Colorado, and has lived there her whole life. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Music at the University of Northern Colorado in May 2024. Kaitlyn has been playing the clarinet for about 6 years, and recently picked up bass clarinet and flute. Outside of music, she loves baking, reading, and paddle boarding.
Rosy Barba
Rosy is an undergraduate student currently fulfilling a BM in Performance. She has been an oboist for about nine years and continues to study oboe at Lamont, although she has previous experience with alto saxophone, guitar, violin, and conducting. Originally from San Diego, California, Rosy spends much of their time at DU practicing or making reeds, helping out in the admissions office, and eating foods containing excessive amounts of cheese.
Mia Butler
Mia is a third-year undergraduate student studying harp performance. Mia comes from Houston, Texas, and attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Mia began her musical studies on piano. She has been playing harp for 9 years. Mia not only enjoys playing classical music, bit also loves improvising with Lamont's Improvisation Ensemble. Outside music, Mia enjoys going on long walks in her free time and doodling in her sketch pad.
