Graduate Programs

Our graduate students benefit from the flexibility of our dual-degree MA program, which allows you to pursue a master's in philosophy alongside another graduate degree program at the University of Denver.

You can also earn a doctorate in the study of religion by participating in the University of Denver-Iliff School of Theology joint PhD program. Our program is designed for students who want to prepare for doctoral work in philosophy and for those seeking an individualized course of study with a more interdisciplinary focus.

Dual-Degree MA

We offer a MA in philosophy only in conjunction with another graduate degree program at the University of Denver. You must already be enrolled in this other program before applying for the master's program in philosophy. Students typically pursue a complementary master's degree in religious studies or another pre-approved discipline within the University.

Joint PhD Program

The Department of Philosophy participates in the Joint Doctoral Program (JDP), a collaboration between the University of Denver (DU) and the Iliff School of Theology. The JDP offers an innovative, interdisciplinary PhD program for those who have already obtained a master's degree in religion, theology or a related field and want to pursue deeper study with a diverse, world-renowned faculty. The program prepares students for independent research, teaching and service. Graduates develop skills and abilities that help them be successful in higher education, religious organizations, counseling centers, government agencies and other professional venues.
