The Lamont School of Music and Director Keith Ward are pleased to announce that Kassandra Lopez as Director of Lamont Summer Academy. She takes over for Conrad Kehn, who held the position since 2019.

"Kass brings such an impressive toolbox to her new role as Director of the Lamont Summer Academy," said Ward. "As an active performing musician with excellent skills in marketing and communication, she is deeply committed to helping students discover themselves through music. LSA has made a difference in young musicians’ lives for more than fifteen years. Under Kass’s leadership, I look forward to that impact continuing, even growing."

"I am so humbled to be in this position," said Lopez. "I most look forward to the opportunity to help shape the next generation of professional musicians, passionate hobbyists, enthusiastic patrons, and compassionate humans.

Kassandra Lopez is a Denver-based flutist, arts administrator, and educator who holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Denver and a Master of Music in Performance from the University of Northern Colorado. She has been a performer in Colorado orchestral and chamber ensembles including the Arapahoe Philharmonic, Boulder Symphony Orchestra, Wild Beautiful Orchestra, Nebula Ensemble, and is a founding member of guitar/flute ensemble: Lorentz/Lopez. The duo recently completed their debut album, Gallery, which will be released in March 2024. She currently plays piccolo and third flute with the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra.

Lopez has been a featured soloist with The Denver Brass at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts as well as a member of the Denver chapter of the B.O.T.A.R. Orchestra at the Mission Ballroom performing alongside Streetlight Manifesto. She is a member of the National Flute Association and Sigma Alpha Iota, and received the highly-sought after SAI career grant in May 2020. Lopez has been a finalist in competitions such as the Arriaga Chamber Competition, the Sigma Alpha Iota Scholarship Competition, the Lamont Chamber Ensemble Competition, as well as the UNC Concerto Competition.

Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Lopez has had the opportunity to travel and study music under many prestigious musicians such as Brook Ferguson, Julie Thornton, Katherine Bryan, James Hall, and Art Bouton. Outside of performing, she is an enthusiastic educator with middle and high school students across the Front Range. Lopez aims to inspire the next generation of musicians to have a lifelong passion for the arts. Currently the Marketing & Communications Director for The Denver Brass and the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute, she enjoys assisting in the development and future of the arts throughout Colorado as an arts administrator professional. In her free time, she enjoys live event photography, backpacking with her German Shepherd dog, and spending time in the kitchen with her spouse.
