Student Updates

  • Grace Ganz (BA '21, Journalism & Music) won the Society of Professional Journalists' Mark of Excellence Award for Best Online/Digital News Videography in 2020 across Region 9 for her piece, "New Title IX Regulations: Helpful or Harmful?" produced in collaboration with DU Media.
  • Jake Gloth (Senior, Journalism) won the Best College Television Future Broadcasters Award 2020 from the Colorado Broadcaster Association for this piece on the Spanish Flu, produced in collaboration with DU Media. 
  • Kiera O'Neill (Senior, Film Studies & Production and Mathematics) won second place in the Society of Professional Journalists' Mark of Excellence Award for Best Online/Digital News Videography in 2020 across Region 9 for her piece, "Graduating Class 2020" produced in collaboration with DU Media.

Faculty Updates

  • Assistant Professor Joe Brown
    • His film, "Operation Wolf Patrol:"
      • won the "Best Faculty Feature Documentary Award" at the Broadcast Education Association "Festival of Media Arts,"
      • won the "Best of Fest in the Documentary Category" at the Broadcast Education Association "Festival of Media Arts." This award is sponsored by the Charles & Lucille King Family Foundation.
      • won a "Domestic Social Impact Award for Documentary from the Thin Line Film Festival."
        was accepted to the following film festivals:
        • Wisconsin Film Festival,
        • Madison, WI
        • MKE Film Festival, Milwaukee, WI
        • Lighthouse International Film Festival, NJ
        • NorthwestFest, Alberta, Canada 
        • Animalus Fabula Film Festival, Austin, TX
          • won the festival's "Best of Fest" award at the Animalus Fablula Film Festival for the month of April, and has been invited to compete in the festival's yearly competition in November.

    • Has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure.

  • Associate Professor Sheila Schroeder
    • has teamed up with UC-Denver professor Jessica McGaugh and a team of local writers to create an episode for the new web series, Womanhood, which explores everyday awkward moments women experience. Schroeder's episode, Judy, Judy, Judy, is a comedic take on the tortuous journey that is menopause. The series will be filmed in June and August as part of a mentorship opportunity for female filmmakers.
  • Associate Professor Margie Thompson
    • Will be retiring at the end of next year, and will conclude her final year of teaching this spring. Thank you, Margie, for 33 years of wonderful service! 
    • Received the Leadership in Internationalization Award at the 2021 Internationalization Summit.
