One of the constants among Indigenous peoples around the world is the incorporation of art into the objects of everyday life. This exhibit features works by Indigenous artists that reflect their artistic versatility and cultural traditions. Join DUMA for a reception with light refreshments before learning more about the exhibition from artist Louie Gong at 6 p.m.
The exhibition will run through Nov. 15. DUMA is open Mon. - Fri., 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and there is no admission charge. The exhibition features art by Kristina Maldonado Bad Hand, Joe Don Brave, Ronnie Fairbanks, Louie Gong, Heather Levi, Micah McCarty, Lynda Teller Pete, Bessie Smith, and Crystal Kaakeeyáa Rose Demientieff Worl.
Louie Gong (M.Ed) is an artist, educator and public speaker who was raised by his grandparents in the Nooksack tribal community. Although he is best known for his highly sought after, hand-drawn custom shoes, Louie has received international recognition for a body of work that - like his mixed heritage (Nooksack/Chinese/French/Scottish) - defies categorization.
