Brian Neal to join the Lamont Faculty

Brian Neal will be joining the Lamont School of Music faculty in the full-time position of Trumpet this coming Fall. Mr. Neal is a multifaceted musician with performance and teaching experience in a variety of musical styles and at diverse musical venues. A sampling of his performing credits include membership in Dallas Brass, soloist with orchestras around the country, national and international tours, and recordings across a broad range of musics. He has been on the faculty at Miami Dade College for the past 14 years, has served as a fellow at major music festivals, and has enjoyed working with many school band programs in clinics and performances across the nation.      

Mr. Neal brings to the position a breadth of musical knowledge and experience that will serve all our students and our program at Lamont. He writes, “I am thrilled to join the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver as the new professor of Trumpet. It is an honor to be part of such an illustrious faculty and to contribute to the rich tradition of excellence at Lamont. I look forward to being a part of building a vibrant community of brass players, empowering students to reach new heights as artists and equipping them to shine in the ever-evolving world of music.”

ABOUT BRIAN NEAL
Brian Neal is a multifaceted trumpet player who has been displaying his talent on the trumpet for decades. From principal trumpet with the Miami City Ballet Orchestra to premiere trumpet with the Dallas Brass, his career has taken him to Russia, Europe, and across the US, where he has performed at diverse venues—from the grand concert halls of Los Angeles and New York to school gymnasiums from Miami to Utquiavik, Alaska.

Mr. Neal is in his 14th season as a member of the internationally celebrated Dallas Brass, one of America’s foremost musical ensembles, and has appeared with symphony orchestras nationwide.  Symphonic credits include the Utah Symphony conducted by Keith Lockhart and the Florida Philharmonic conducted by Peter Nero.  In addition to over 40 solo engagements each year, the Dallas Brass has performed numerous times at the Midwest convention in Chicago as a featured ensemble, has appeared on the CBS “Early Show,” and has toured overseas to Europe and Russia.  The Dallas Brass has a strong dedication to working with young musicians. With them, Mr. Neal has enjoyed working with hundreds of school band programs in clinics and performances across the nation.

A consummate soloist, he has been featured with the California Symphony, Monterey Ensemble, Florida Philharmonic, Orchestra Miami, Miami Wind Symphony, Leganes Orchestra, Spain, and most recently performed the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. He was invited to perform his composition, “Concertante #1” in Carnegie Hall and with the Escuela-Conservatorio Orquesta, Manuel Rodriquez Sales de Leganés, Spain. In 2022 Mr. Neal was awarded the Southeast regional Emmy for best performance and composition with a multi-national collaboration involving 4 countries in an online performance. He is an active member and soloist with the Sitka Brass, a large ensemble of brass players made up of players from many of the major orchestras around the country.

Mr. Neal received his training at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City and the University of Miami. During summers, he was a fellow at many of the major music festivals such as Tanglewood, Waterloo, Fountainbleau Conservatory in France, and Norfolk Chamber Music Festival performing with the Meridian Arts Ensemble. The conductors he has worked with include Charles Dutoit, Yoel Levi, John Nelson, Seiji Ozawa, Simon Rattle, Stanislav Skorbachevsky, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Leon Fleischer.
