The Artist Diploma in Conducting is a graduate program designed for exceptional musicians committed to a professional career on the podium. Highly selective and intensely focused, the program offers advanced training in orchestral, wind, or choral conducting within Lamont’s supportive and artistically vibrant environment. Working one-on-one with a faculty mentor, students refine their technique, expand their artistic perspective, and deepen their interpretive skills through a personalized curriculum of graduate-level coursework and substantial conducting opportunities.
At the heart of the program is extensive hands-on experience leading major Lamont ensembles — including the Lamont Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and three different choral ensembles — offering students the rare opportunity to shape performances in a professional setting while developing their leadership and rehearsal strategies.
This diploma is designed for conductors who already hold a degree in music and are ready to advance their training through intensive study and practical experience. It provides an ideal bridge to the professional world, equipping emerging conductors with the knowledge, confidence, and artistic vision to lead with distinction.
