If frigid temperatures, snow and ice have left you dreaming of warmer days and making your summer plans, consider enrolling in one of more than 100 courses offered by the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences (CAHSS). Summer classes can help you catch up on credits, fulfill course requirements, boost GPA, save money by graduating early, explore new directions and gain valuable expertise toward future employment.

Students can choose from 65 common-curriculum and 40 major-minor courses, most of which are offered asynchronously, making it easy to work around summer internships, job and travel schedules.

“Summer courses are a fantastic opportunity for students who want to get ahead or catch up while still being able to go home for the summer, travel and work,” said Paula Adamo, associate dean for academic planning and student success. “They can also make it easier for students who might have a single very heavy quarter ahead to take one or two summer courses and still graduate in the quarter they want in a more manageable manner.”

Taking summer classes has enabled students like Emily Perry, a double major in English and history expected to graduate in spring 2025, to get her degrees a year early. “These courses were an enriching experience that allowed me to work closely with faculty, gaining in-depth feedback on my work and ability to think critically, which are invaluable skills as I head into the workforce,” she said.

Students also can explore financial assistance options (which are different for summer classes) to help manage expenses through the DU Summer Aid  site.
