Maria Souliotis is Instructor of Library Services for Northeastern State University.

Maria Souliotis (MA, Musicology, Class of 2015) is the Music Librarian at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. She serves as the subject area liaison to the Music Department as well as the university’s College of Business and Technology. In addition to her duties as a Librarian, Maria also teaches courses in Music Appreciation and Library Media, serves as the Vice Chair of the Mountain-Plains Chapter of Music Library Association (MPMLA), and is the Mountain Plains Chapter Liaison for the Music Library Students & Emerging Professionals (MLStEP) division of the Music Library Association.

During her time at Lamont, Maria served as a GTA for the Musicology program and was an active member of the Lamont Chorale, the Lamont Womens’ Chorus (now Voces Aurum), the North Indian Classical Ensemble, and the Lamont Ghanaian Drumming Ensemble.

Reflecting on her path to Music Librarianship, Maria says:

“I was actually introduced to Music Librarianship through Dr. Suzanne Moulton-Gertig, who was the Music Librarian at Lamont when I started there in Fall 2013. When I first met her and introduced myself as a new Musicology major, she remarked that Music Librarianship was one viable career path for graduates in Musicology. After graduating from Lamont and having to move back in with my family in Texas, I worked several jobs to pay off my student loans before deciding to pursue librarianship. I finally completed my Masters’ in Library Science through the online program at Texas Woman’s University in December 2020. For me, librarianship constituted an avenue back into academia, music, and scholarly work. I enjoy getting to pursue a variety of activities in my current role, including teaching, serving on university committees, and collaborating with students and faculty. I continue to sing and perform with NSU’s University/Community Chorus, and I look forward to our upcoming performance tour to Estonia and Latvia this March! Outside of work, I am an avid crocheter and love to post my projects on Ravelry.”
