The Keystone Experience is the centerpiece of the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences' reimagined vision for the creative and liberal arts, merging seamlessly into students’ majors and minors.
Our Students Have:
Combined research completed abroad with internships in Denver to study and promote sustainability
Used qualitative research methods to assess the efficacy of educational practices in chemistry classes at DU as sociology honors theses
Completed an internship with support from the Sturm Family Foundation stipend dedicated to students in the College completing internships in the public and nonprofit sector
The possibilities are as varied as students' passions and interests. This provides students the ability to apply their knowledge and skills across disciplines, within or outside the liberal and creative arts.
The result? A variety of educational experiences that set a new standard of student-centered learning.

Keystone Experiences in Action
Praxis Initiative Immerses Students in Art, Tech, Theory
Praxis emphasizes the importance of hands-on, cross-disciplinary, and public-facing creation in learning. Supported by the Keystone Strategic Plan and the Center for Innovation in the Liberal and Creative Arts (CILCA), CAHSS is creating opportunities for students to engage in praxis.
Theatre Class Connects Students and Community
Professor Ashley Hamilton’s Theatre for Social Change class brought together DU students and Hard Times Writers Workshop participants to explore the world of devised theater. Professor Hamilton gave writing prompts, and the class worked together to create short performances based on the responses.
Casa de Paz Learning Community
Funding from the Center for Innovation in the Liberal and Creative Arts (CILCA) and the Mellon Foundation supports (among other projects) DU’s Casa de Paz Learning Community, which allows for unique service learning opportunities for students.
