The Littleton Symphony Orchestra has announced its new Music Director and Conductor, Dr. Catherine Sailer. She will lead the LSO’s new 2022-2023 concert season. Dr. Sailer currently holds the post of Director of Choral Studies at DU's Lamont School of Music.

The search for a new Music Director began 18 months ago and attracted 55 candidates from the United States and Europe. Five semi-finalists were selected from that group, and three were ultimately invited to program and conduct a concert with the orchestra from February through May 2022.

Catherine Sailer describes herself as a “full-on Coloradan.” A Colorado native, she has held her post at DU for 20 years. She has known that she wanted to be a conductor since her days as drum major of her high school band. In addition to her duties at DU, Dr. Sailer is the associate conductor of the Colorado Ballet, conductor of the Evans Choir, and has conducted many orchestras both nationally and abroad, including the New York Philharmonic and the Beijing Symphony. Her diverse experience also includes working with Chance the Rapper and Josh Groban.

Concertgoers will see Dr. Sailer on the podium at Littleton United Methodist Church for the season opener on October 21 with a concert featuring Gustav Holst’s The Planets. A free children’s concert follows on November 5 with the theme “From Sea to Shining Sea,” beginning in the nation’s capital with John Phillip Sousa’s march The Washington Post, and ending in Los Angeles with a John Williams movie score. Along the narrated journey, the music will reflect the character of the United States, including the Mississippi River and the West.

After four successful outdoor summer concerts in August 2021, Dr. Sailer will conduct two this August, the first on August 21 at Bega Park in Historic Downtown Littleton, and the second on August 24 at Clement Park in Littleton. These concerts will feature light classical, movie and opera selections and they are both free to the public.

Though Dr. Sailer is still working out the details of the 2022-2023 season schedule, other notable dates include the holiday concert on December 2, the annual festive New Year’s Eve concert at 6:30 p.m. on December 31, and additional masterworks concerts in 2023 on February 10, March 31, and May 19. Release of the full season’s programing is expected shortly.

All season concerts will be at Littleton United Methodist Church, 5894 South Datura Street, Littleton, CO 80120. Further information, including tickets, will be available soon at www.littletonsymphony.org.
