The Department of Media, Film & Journalism Studies is excited to announce the launch of a new minor in Media, Film & Journalism Studies. The program is officially available for students who would like to declare the minor.

The minor in Media, Film & Journalism Studies will replace the department's existing minor in Film Studies & Production. Students currently enrolled in the Film Studies & Production minor will be able to complete the degree, but no new students will be accepted into the program. Students interested in a film minor are encouraged to consider the Media, Film & Journalism Studies minor instead.

MFJS faculty proposed the minor switch in order to address students' requests to take more courses throughout the department. The department receives regular questions from students about minors in journalism studies, strategic communication and media studies in addition to film studies and production. This minor will allow students to access a wider range of MFJS courses and will give them the opportunity to choose courses to build their own area of concentration within the parameters of one minor. This greater flexibility in the minor will encourage students from every major across the University to consider a minor that can help build a career in any field.

The minor requires two foundational courses from a list of four options: Introduction to Film Criticism, Introduction to Media & Culture, Politics & Media and Innovations in Media. Students are then required to choose three electives courses from a list of 15 options that offer opportunities to develop expertise within all four major areas within MFJS.
