Lamont Colloquium is a forum for Lamont students and faculty to present scholarly projects they have developed in the course of their studies, and share them with the broader Lamont community. It is designed to simulate the experience of presenting at an academic conference. The format for each speaker is a 20-minute scripted presentation, followed by ten minutes for questions. Topics may be anything connected with music: past presentations have been on topics as diverse as ethnography of the Denver punk scene, political subtexts of Filipino love songs, and metric disruption in Renaissance vihuela music. Students often use this experience as a stepping-stone to presenting at a regional chapter conference like SMT/AMS/SEM.
