Denver Area Music Teacher Association (DAMTA) is excited to partner with the Lamont Piano Preparatory Program to host Leah Claiborne for a student recital, Q&A session with the students, and a presentation in celebration of Black History Month and Leah's new book series, which is a compilation of music from black composers for beginning and intermediate piano students.

This gathering will be a unique educational opportunity for students and teachers alike to learn from each other as participants perform music of Black Composers. Similarly, DAMTA would like to challenge Denver’s music community to examine its own teaching of repertoire. Participating teachers are asked to reflect on what it means to teach this repertoire and why it’s important to model this work. Teachers will be welcome to share their personal experience of expanding their repertoire with intentions to inspire an open dialogue in the Denver community about what it means to be an inclusive music teacher.

Donors and Sponsors: Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Colorado State Music Teachers Association (CSMTA), Friends of Chamber Music, Lamont School of Music Piano Preparatory Program, Denver Area Music Teachers Association (DAMTA)
