The Lamont Early Music Program, in association with the Denver Chapter of American Recorder Society, will present an early music workshop at the Lamont School of Music with recorder player and composer Glen Shannon from 6-8:30pm Friday Apr. 12, and 9am-5pm Saturday, Apr 13.

Workshop sessions include “Friday Night Fantasias,” “Sacred Saturday with Palestrina,” “Fugues Flourishing Under Oppression,” and “Polychoral Happy Hour.” Mr. Shannon will also coach participants in the performance of his own compositions.

Glen Shannon lives in El Cerrito, CA where he a member of the East Bay Recorder Society and Co-Director of the Barbary Coast Recorder Orchestra. His compositions have won prizes in contests since 1997, sponsored by the Chicago and Washington, DC Recorder Societies, SFEMS, and the ARS/Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet. Tom Beets and Joris Van Goethem of the former Flanders Recorder Quartet have commissioned works from him, most recently a duet featured on their award-winning first CD as the duo FR2. Glen publishes his music under his own name at www.glenshannonmusic.com, and has also had works published by Moeck Verlag, PRB Productions, Loux Music Publishing Company, the American Recorder Society, and the European recorder magazines Recorder in the UK, Windkanal in Germany, and Blokfluitist in the Netherlands. Performances of selected works can be found on YouTube at www.youtube.com/glenshannon

While the workshop is primarily aimed at recorder players, all early instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome to participate. Registration is free with a University of Denver ID. If you are interested or would like more information, please email ellwood.colahan@du.edu.
