Studying Clarinet at Lamont
At the Lamont School of Music, clarinet students thrive in a focused, collaborative, and supportive environment. With a studio of around ten undergraduates and two graduate students, you’ll receive individualized attention while building strong connections with your peers and faculty.
Your weekly schedule centers on private lessons with Dr. Reynolds, who caters instruction based on each student’s musical goals. Clarinet class happens most weeks and allows the studio to gather together to work on mainstream clarinet repertoire and performance skills. Woodwind Class occurs every week at Lamont and is a unique class that allows all woodwind students the opportunity to perform for each other in a supportive setting to share feedback and receive insights from the full woodwind faculty.
Students perform on B-flat clarinet in ensembles and rotate regularly on E-flat and bass clarinet to build versatility. You'll gain experience in both the Lamont Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, with chamber music each quarter.
Outside the studio, opportunities abound. Lamont’s size allows for personalized attention and meaningful connections, while the city of Denver offers a vibrant music scene with regional orchestras, gigs, and teaching opportunities. Our students are active performers in the community and often get paid work before they even graduate.
In Lamont’s clarinet studio, you’ll learn to listen critically, shape your sound, and contribute meaningfully to every ensemble. Most importantly, since our studio is relatively small, every student is known, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential. If you’re looking for a place to grow as a musician, artist, and individual, the Lamont clarinet studio offers a vibrant and supportive home.
