The master of music in performance prepares gifted musicians to pursue professional careers in music. This selective program provides a wealth of performance opportunities and a studio appointment with a faculty member.
Students receive extensive hands-on training in the performance of Western art music with a faculty of artist-teachers. Graduates go on to careers in performance, arts management, education, and more.

Degree Requirements
The master of music in performance has emphases available in classical and jazz performance areas. Students take weekly one-hour lessons with their applied faculty, participate in ensembles, and take area-specific classes. They complete coursework in music theory and musicology and also must satisfy these non-coursework requirements:
- One full-length performance recital
- Final written project
- Final oral comprehensive exam
- Demonstration of graduate-level proficiency in the musicology and music theory proficiency exams
- Convocation attendance
